Reading Challenge 2013

I finished my 2012 reading challenge a few hours before the end of the year. Well, I finished the volume of books I wanted to read, but not the actual list that I started with. I got involved in a local book club and my reading list changed considerably at that point. I am, however, glad I met my goal of 12 novels for the year. I feel that I can do better this year so I am increasing the number to 18. There are some big ones on the list and it does not contain any of the books I will be reading for the book club but any book of my own choosing should come off of the following list. I had a fun year and reading really did come back as an important part of my life. I am looking for to 2013’s reading. Below is my list for 2013.

Reading Challenge 2013 — 2 Comments

  1. I was going to say that this seemed like relatively few for you, but with Anathem, AND Atlas Shrugged, AND Under the Dome you are in for a serious ton of pages. I’ll be eager to talk with you about Anathem and Atlas!

  2. It seems like is would be too few but it isn’t. I barely hit 12 last year and that includes 2 YA novels and a marathon run at Naked Lunch to finish out the year. I know I can do better than last year though now that I am kind of “back to reading”

Anathem and Atlas Shrugged were on my list last year. Never took them off the shelf. The book group threw everything off and I expect it to do the same this year but at least I have a list again for 2013. I think I only read 3 on my list from last year but all things being equal, those were the books I would have read.

You are right out those three books. They are monsters and so is “Crossroads of Twilight” even though I have read some of that one already. “Theodore Rex” is a challenge as well but I have wanted to read that one for many years. It gets to remain on the list for that reason.

I’m not sure if I am going to prioritize them or not but I kind of have a new rule that says I can’t buy a new book until I read all the ones I own but have not read. The exception to that will be book club books and any new releases from any series I am already reading. So, my “rule” has a few fairly large holes in it. I really do have a lot of real, dead tree edition books on my shelf that need reading first.

I can do it. It is only a question of will…as in “will I do it?”
