Yep, I got hosed. I fully expected to, but I did not think it would happen quite the way it did. After deciding last night that the house was just too hot to sleep in another night. I sent the family to a local hotel and followed as soon as I could after I took care of some business at home. I had to leave our dog so I opened the tops of our windows, turned on all the fans, and filled her bowl with ice before I left. It was not an optimal situation, but it was the best I could do given the tools at hand.
Today, a called a service technician to the house and he spent all of about 15 minutes fixing the problem. I knew what was wrong but I did not know how to get the capacitor to fix the problem. None of the supply houses I called had the part or, if they did have the part, they could not sell it to me. I was left paying the $258.00 dollars to the guy to replace a $30.00 part in less time that it normally takes me to shower in the morning. Add the money I spent on the hotel room and the $30.00 capacitor that I could have replaced myself ended up costing me over $450.00. I won’t even discuss the interest I will be paying since I had to put that repair on credit.
The “Kick in the Nuts Elves” strike again. They have visited me so often in the past few years that I don’t think I will be able to have another child. My parts are completely smashed to pieces. I guess it is OK though as I wouldn’t wish my luck on any more offspring. It is unfair enough that my daughter will have to live with it.
The house was cooling down as I left, but it will be a while before it recovers from the 90+ degree temperatures it has seen the past few days. I am moving north one day folks. You can just about count on it.
And now for something completely different.
I finished Phantom by Terry Goodkind last week. It was a great book filled with plenty of action and drama and I am REALLY looking forward to the final entry in the series this November. Can you say birthday present? Today I am about halfway through Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I should have it done by the weekend and then it is on to Stephen King’s Blaze. This is a previously unreleased Richard Bachman book so I hope it has some of the rawness of the original Backman books.
Finally, I fixed my RSS feed so that the paragraph breaks work correctly. I did not know that there was a problem so if you have been reading this site through Google reader or something similar and was curious about the single LONG paragraphs, it should be fixed now. Sorry about the issue. You will have to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the feed to get it to work properly.
